Omega novelties always garner a certain interest and anticipation from everyone in the watch industry. Omega’s last year’s big launch Globemaster series has already got a new sibling with annual calendar, as a pre-basel launch. At Baselworld 2016, Omega introduced watches in the Constellation and Speedmaster series that will interest new Omega buyers. While the Omega Constellation watch gets small seconds, the new Speedmaster gets a dial made out of a real meteorite! Omega 2016 watch collection now also has the Planet Ocean watch in Sedna gold or rose gold, for the first time, ever.
News Points
- The new Basel 2016 Omega Constellation comes with a small seconds and a Master Chronometer status
- Omega Speedmaster CK2998 released with Calibre 1861. The same calibre from the original model of year 1959. 2016 Baselworld Speedmaster comes in deep blue and white combination.
- The dial of the Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon is crafted with a real meteorite and lends it a unique texture
- The Planet Ocean line for men come with three interesting versions. Ceramic and rubber combo bezel makes a debut here
- Omega Globemaster, world’s first certified anti-magentic watch gets an annual calendar complication for Basel 2016 watch fair.
Omega Constellation Basel 2016
The new Constellation gets two noticeable changes. Firstly, it is fitted with the small seconds feature that has been placed at 9 o’clock. It is highlighted with four diamond markers. The date has been pushed to 6 o’clock. Secondly, it is considered among the first ladies’ timepieces to reach the new METAS standard. That makes this elegant number a Master Chronometer, which means it can count accurate time despite any strong magnetic fields surrounding it like x-rays etc… An achievement for Omega, considering that the Calibre 8704 is a small movement. The stainless steel, red gold, mother-of-pearl and diamond combo looks great.
Baselworld 2016 Omega Launch: Speedmaster Moonwatch CK2998 Limited Edition
Two clever additions by Omega in the new Speedmaster from Baselworld 2016. The colour and the movement. Even though some ardent Speedmaster fans may grumble, Omega has gone ahead and given the watch a deep-blue hue. The three sub-dials, bezel and the leather strap bleeds blue and yet looks classy. Since it is an inspiration of the original model from 1959, Omega has retained the same old heart. We liked the move. And so will Omega lovers, who can’t wait to get their hands on the rare Calibre 1861. The “lollipop” style and the Speedmaster Seahorse medallion on the caseback has made a comeback too. Limited to 2,998 pieces.

Omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon ‘Meteorite’
Centuries ago, a meteorite called Gibeon hurtled out of space and fell in Namibia. Yesterday, we saw it for the first time neatly tucked inside Omega’s new Speedmaster. It has that ET effect. The meteorite dial of the Basel 2016 Omega watch has an unreal ribbon-like “Widmanstatten” pattern that is unique for each model. Apart from handing you over a slice of space, Omega has used ceramic and Sedna gold for the watch. And for the very first time, Ceragold in the tachymeter scale. The reddish tone adds to the drama on the dial of Omega Meteor 2016 watch. So does the looming grey of the ceramic case and leather strap.
Basel 2016 Omega : Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Gents 2016 Watch
The new Omega Planet Ocean has many firsts to its credit. In one version, the new diving bezel is made of a rubber and ceramic combination. We liked the orange rubber hint that covers the first 15 minutes. It makes the watch look edgy. The bi-ceramic bezel also makes a debut with this collection, in another watch ofcourse. The transition from black to white on the ring help to separate day and night and lends to its sporty exterior. In the third version, and again for the very first time Sedna gold makes an appearance in the Planet Ocean line, paired with a blue ceramic dial and bezel.

Introduced last year as the first and only ‘anti magnetic’ ‘certified’ watch in the world, Globemaster will add an Annual Calendar version to the collection, this year.
