SIHH 2016 Lange and Sohne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds
The Richard Lange Jumping Seconds is basically a precision driven watch made for scientific observation with clean and easy to read dial. Scientific observation watches are usually meant for people working in science labs and technical research teams. Now it doesn’t matter if you are a scientist or not, as this watch can very well be your everyday dress watch. The regulator-styled display is legible and clean as a whistle.
However, like usual regulator-styled watches which have the minutes hand as their central hand. The Richard Lange Jumping Seconds comes with a central jumping seconds hand. The jumping seconds mechanism is not something we haven’t seen before. It is a system similar to the seconds hand of a quartz watch, which makes it easy to read the time to the accuracy of a second.
A scientific watch also needs to be precise and Lange has tackled that challenge by adding a “constant force” mechanism in the movement. This intelligent little device makes sure that the power is delivered to the mainspring without any fluctuations, which might disturb the accuracy. The movement that masters all these technical complexities is the Lange’s all-new in-house produced L094.1 caliber. The 390-part movement that provides power storage of 42 hours can be observed from the transparent caseback. The fine-looking A. Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds is available in a platinum case and in a limited edition of only 100.
SIHH 2016 Lange and Sohne : Grand Lange 1 Moonphase “Lumen”
Lange & Söhne have combined the two selling points of their previous Grand Lange watches and blended them into one beautiful show-stopper called the Grand Lange 1 Moonphase “Lumen”. The wristwatch features a stunning moon-phase display with the signature Lange king-size date having luminous characteristics.
The dial is the main highlight of the watch. Made with blackened silver and black-tinted semi transparent sapphire crystal glass, it makes the movement underneath the dial partially visible. This according to me gives a touch of sportiness to the watch. The black-tint and coating to the glass blocks most of the light but still lets in enough to charge the luminous elements. A large luminous moon-phase display can be seen on the sub-dial showing the hours and minute. The moon-phase complication is accurate up to one day of error in 122.6 years. A running seconds sub-dial is seen at 5’o clock and a power reserve indicator at 3’o clock.
The movement underneath the dial is Lange’s manually winding L095.4 caliber. The movement which is made from untreated German silver undergoes finishing and assembling twice before finally getting ready for the customers. Cased in a platinum case, the A. Lange & Söhne Grand Lange 1 Moonphase “Lumen” is available in a limited edition of 200 timepieces.
SIHH 2016 Lange and Sohne: Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar
Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar is not a new watch but is certainly presented in a new white gold metal case with a charming grey dial. The watch combines the classic complications of a perpetual calendar with tourbillon, in an iconic Lange 1 family of design.
The dial of Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar provides a lot of information in an absolutely crisp and easy-to-read manner. The aim of Lange for the user to read all the indications in one glance is certainly fulfilled. The calendar functions include an outsize date, a retrograde day-of-the-week hand at 9’o clock, leap year indication at 6’o clock and the exterior most circular ring that rotates to display the month of the year. The large sub-dial displays the time whereas the smaller one displays the running seconds with the moonphase.
The self-winding caliber L082.1 movement will need no adjustment to its calendar functions till the year 2100. From the transparent sapphire crystal rear, the freely rotating tourbillon is visible. It is lavishly hand-engraved and the upper part of the tourbillon cage is adorned with black finishing. The movement comes equipped with a stop-seconds mechanism and provides a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
