When it comes to wooing women with precious stones, Harry Winston’s sense of innovation remains unparalleled. Adhering to the three golden rules of watch making – mechanical precision, functionality and awe-inspiring looks; Harry Winston’s Basel collection, this year, has ladies diamond watches that are very different from what you have seen before. There is also, a very special modern take on the midnight watch series. Here’s LuxuryVolt’s wrists-on review of new Harry Winston ladies watches.
Harry Winston Butterfly Watch Premier Collection
Butterflies have been used often by watch makers on women’s watches, but never like this before..We’re talking about the Premier Precious Harry Winston Butterfly Watch Automatic 36mm. In white gold and with 28,000 vibrations per hour this beauty runs on mechanical automatic winding. Which means it does not need a battery to power it. Does it shine bright you ask? Yes of course! It has 28 diamonds adorning the frame and lugs.
If you’re not impressed by the no of diamonds, here is another fact nugget that might blow your mind; Harry Winston designers have developed a technique where they store and use the shiny powder, found on butterfly wings! This shiny powder is what you see, sparkling like glitter on the dial. It is this powder that lends the beautiful and almost transcendental look to the Harry Winston blue watch. The sparkling powder comes in shades of green and rose gold, and in three different designs. It took Harry Winston maisons, three years to develop the unique technique of using a natural source of colour without hurting the source and letting its beauty flutter into a gorgeous timepiece.
That’s the Harry Winston blue watch’s Sapphire crystal open back case where the mechanical automatic movement of the watch can be seen. The movement like in several other swiss precision watches, works with the force of a Silicon balance spring – which ensures precision, literally every second.
Harry Winston Premier Shinde Automatic Watch for Ladies: Harry Winston Gold Black Watch
The second on the list will have to be the Harry Winston Premier Shinde Automatic 36mm. This design is definitely going to strike home for watch lovers in India. The model is a tribute to Ambaji V. Shinde (a prominent jeweller from early 20th century) whom Harry Winston met during his travels to India and Bombay. There are three models in this Harry Winston Gold on Black watch series. They are all inspired especially by Shinde’s necklaces and other jewellery. Not caught your eye yet? Give it a closer look, the watch is set with 57 cut diamonds and made of intricate work done is 24 Carat gold. In fact, Harry Winston loads it on – the enamel of the dial is further covered in flecks of gold so that there is an added shiny texture to the whole piece. The strap comes with a white gold buckle and has another set of 17 cut diamonds, on it.
This Harry Winston ladies Diamond watch, too, is an automatic watch with a Silicon balance spring. The machinery at the back is HW2008 calibre.

The dial has a stalactite pattern studded with stones, which gives an impression of time having frozen still. All this on a Tahitian Mother of pearl dial. The designers have totally nailed the frozen-ice metaphor on this beautiful time piece! The rose gold model comes embellished with diamonds, while the white gold one with the blue strap has sparkling blue Sapphires in the mix.
