The launch of Globemaster was much publicised by Omega, months before Baselworld began. Omega promised that this time’s Baselworld won’t be the same as before and kept the big announcement, under wraps. Indeed, the news from Omega turned out to be a big one. After a long long time, Omega introduced an all new watch series. A name you have never heard before. ‘Omega Globemaster’ is a package with the best of Omega; an uncomplicated, stately design and the most accurate movement Omega has ever created.
Omega Globemaster is the first watch in the world with a Master Chronometer certification. Why is that important for Omega watch buyers? Read all about the new technology and certification here.
In this blog, we will take a closer look at the most expensive Omega Globemaster Platinum.
Omega Globemaster is the first Omega watch to have a pie-pan dial with a fluted bezel. The pie pan design has been used in earlier Omega Constellation watches and the fluted bezel too has been seen on Omega watches. But the two design elements have never been used together in an Omega watch.
Omega choose to go for a minimalistic design for the Globemaster. Hour markers on dials. Elongated lugs complete its look with a choice of leather or metal straps. It is the simplicity is the aesthetics of this watch that makes it so alluring.
My personal favourite is the gold model but I do also find the Omega Globemaster Platinum, very attractive. It could aptly be a statement maker for the nouveau riche who are looking for something new, subtle & makes a powerful statement. It sure will be a statement maker if you can get your hands on one, as the Omega Globemaster Platinum is limited to 352 pieces only.
On the face of the watch, you will notice the words ‘Master Chronometer’. It’s a term you might not have seen before, on any watch. That’s because this is the first watch to be certified as one. What is a Master Chronometer?
A Master Chronometer is a watch that can tell accurate time without being effected by external elements like moisture, gravity and magnetic field (measuring upto 15000 Gauss). So far, watches with just the ‘Chronometer’ certification were not tested for effects against strong magnetic fields. A watch is certified to be a Master Chronometer, if its accuracy stays unaffected despite being exposed to magnetic fields measuring 15000 Gauss. X-ray and similar machines are capable of emitting such strong magnetic rays.
Omega Globemaster is an intelligent mix of mechanical genius and aesthetic beauty.
Protecting the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8900/8901 powering the timepiece, is a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an outstanding decorative feature. A medallion made of the same material as the case body. It has been set into the glass, before the glass is fastened to the caseback. Caseback is decorated with four screws.
The case is brushed and has four polished bevels that connect the edges of the lugs to the bezel. These polished bevels are also found on the three-row metallic bracelet which is completely brushed except for its understated polished edges. The central links are slightly curved, enhancing the watch’s sophisticated appearance.
This dial comes paired with a set of dark blue leather straps. Platinum link bracelet wont look bad either, if one wishes to change the straps. The watch feels grand on the wrist. Omega Globemaster Platinum is an investment-grade watch. Remember, it is the first limited edition watch from an all new watch series, from Omega.
Omega Globemaster Platinum price in India is Rupees 24 lakhs or USD 38500 or 37000 CHF, without taxes. Omega Globemaster Platinum watch will be available in stores starting November 2015.
