There are two categories of diamond watches. One, is of watches easily termed as ‘Jewellery Diamond watches’, like typical diamond bezel or blanket-diamond-dials.
The second category is, ‘Diamond watches from Van Cleef and Arpels’, because it would be unfair to consider ladies watches from the brand to be a part of the first, general category. Van Cleef and Arpels ladies jewellery watches from the ‘Poetic complication’ are unique. They stand apart, not just for bling aesthetics but also for horological art behind an ornate dial.
This, I discovered only after giving some wrist time to the ‘Butterfly ladies watch’ from Van Cleef and Arpels. This watch is from the breathtaking ‘Poetic complications’ series. Here’s a short Butterfly jewellery watch review.
Time flies! Literally on this Poetic Complication watch by Van Cleef Arpels. Butterfly Symphony watch is about two butterflies in a majestic jungle. One tells the hours and the other butterfly tells minutes.
Van Cleef & Arpel’s Jewellery watch is a poem about their journey in a forest within the 38 mm dial. Backdrop is lacquer mother-of-pearl.
Each enchanting timepiece from Van Cleef Arpels 2014 watches for women, stands out as a treasure of savoir-faire, combining the most exceptional techniques—engraving, enamelling, miniature painting on mother-of-pearl and translucent lacquer work—with themes evoking happiness, love and luck.
Poetic complication dials are well sized even for a small wrist like mine. Thickness of dial adds to a little weight on the wrist. I wouldn’t mind carrying that weight for the sake of having a mechanical watch movement powering an artistic watch.
Watch makers at Van Cleef and Arpels have achieved a great product here. Built a stunning looking watch and powered it with a rather less complicated mechanical movement. Creating such a dial would have been easier with a quartz movement but VCA chose to maintain the luxury factor of the watch by powering it with a mechanical movement.
