It’s been a while since I laid my eyes on a Moonphase watch by Omega! This Baselworld, Omega will introduce a very special Moonphase watch, the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph. This complication promises to be different and rather special than other watches with the Moonphase compication. Omega has used a very high resolution image of the moon on this Moon phase. The watch maker claims that a very close look will allow the onlooker to notice an astronaut’s footprint on the moon, of the Omega Moonphase complication! Functionality wise this Moon phase is like any other Moon phase. Another special watch that Omega will launch this year is the first Master Chronometer watch for women, the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M.
- Omega introduces two novelties ahead of the Baselworld 2016.
- Omega 2016 launch, Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer features a high-resolution image of the moon for the Moon phase indicator.
- The Omega Moon phase 2016 watch also features a 12-hour chronograph and calendar functionality powered by all-new in-house produced caliber 9904 movement.
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer is the first ladies watch from Omega with METAS certification. This is the second launch from Omega for Baselworld 2016.
The Omega Speedmaster Moon phase Chronograph Master Chronometer is an elegant yet sporty looking blue masterpiece. The Omega 2016 Speedmaster comes with a classy bright blue dial with a realistic-looking moon for the Moon phase indicator. Underneath, the dial the wristwatch is powered by an all-new in-house produced Omega caliber 9904 movement. The movement in focus, features chronograph functionality with calendar functions along with the certification of “Master Chronometer”. Certification is provided by METAS which is a third-party independent organization that audits and certifies every watch only if it passes its high accuracy, durability and performance standards. Some of the other features of METAS certified movement includes anti-magnetic components and co-axial escapement. Caliber 9904 movement is made up of a total of 368 individual components and will deliver 60 hours of power reserve.
On the dial, the 12-hour chronograph and date indicators are laid on sub-dials opposite to each other. And at 6’o clock, the Moon phase indicator is seen with a high-resolution image of the real moon. Omega has invested in detailing of the moon to such an extent; they claim an astronaut’s footprint is visible on the moon if observed closely. The scale on the moonphase indicator is from 0 to 29.5 days which is the exact time taken to complete one lunar month and the complication will require adjustment only once in 10 years.
The Omega Speedmaster 2016 Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer will be available in 44.25 mm wide steel case fitted with a blue ceramic bezel to match the blue dial. The blue sunburst dial with blue alligator strap combined with the all-new METAS certified in-house movement definitely makes the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer a collector’s delight.
The second novelty from Omega, Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer combines the chocolate brown coloured ceramic bezel and dial with 18k sedan gold case. And, even though Omega is calling it a ladies watch at 39.5mm wide case, it can be just easily used as a divers watch by any man with an average wrist size. The warm gold and brown dial combination gives the Omega ladies wristwatch a rich and luxurious feel.
Omega has introduced a number of new features which were not seen in a ladies watch from the house of the watchmaker before. For starters, it is the first ladies watch from Omega to have the Master Chronometer certification movement. The in-house built new caliber 8801 used in Omega 2016 Master Chronometer watch can also be viewed from the sapphire crystal caseback. And lastly, the Planet Ocean series is first time seen in the company’s patented scratch resistant rose gold alloy – Sedna Gold. As mentioned earlier, the dial and bezel of the Omega ladies brown watch 2016, are made of ceramic whereas the minute markers and numbers are made in Ceragold. This is made possible by a special technology developed by Omega that helps in decorating ceramic parts in gold.
