Ferrari 488 Spider for 2016
Ferrari-488-Spider-for-2016
We had written about the new Ferrari 488GTB a few months ago. Now, Ferrari has announced a convertible version of its iconic car & frankly we would be quite surprised if they hadn’t. Calling the 488 Spider a 488 GTB with a drop top is a bit odd. However, the new Ferrari 488 Spider promises to be extremely entertaining. Ferrari has painstakingly tried to add a few more layers of wow over the already awe-inspiring coupe.
Ferrari Coupe’s Retractable Roofy
The new Ferrari Spider inherits its retractable roof from the 458 Spider, which is a two-part, electronically folding hard-top. Aerodynamic improvements abound, the underbody vortex generators improve handling. While the rear glass window can adopt any of three different positions to help optimize comfort.
0 to 100 KMPH in 3 Secs!
A peep inside the engine and you’ll find that the car uses the same 660bhp V8 turbo engine used in the GTB. Meaning it produces 98bhp more than the predecessor 458 Spider.
The Ferrari 488 Spider 2016 model rushes from 0 to 100km/h in 3 seconds, flat. Ferrari’s engineers claim that the car with its upgraded electronic systems has 12% more acceleration out of corners. The chassis performance is 23% better & the overall response time is 9% more rapid. We’re working on getting Lewis Hamilton to come over & confirm those numbers for us. In all likelihood if you’re looking to buy one of these…you’re probably a (wealthy) ‘sun’ seeking, car enthusiast who wouldn’t really notice the massive percentage difference.
Lighter Roof for New Blue Ferrari
Ferrari also claims that their patented ‘Retractable Hard Top’ is 25 kg lighter than the classic fabric soft top. It offers better cockpit comfort. Makes me wonder do they just say these things to mess around with your head? Or did they compare the weights with a 50kg lead block on the fabric top? Could be either of the two options above! For the purpose of this conversation let’s just trust them like we always do! It takes mere 14 seconds for the aluminum top to fold neatly into the nacelle behind the seats.
Buy it for Roaring V8 Engine
We would recommend getting your hands on the new Spider, not for any of the reasons mentioned, above (except for the new V8 engine – that is undeniably awesome). Serious buying advice; If you desire, pure thrill of open-head, top driving in a high performance sports car – the 488 Spider fits the bill. The new Ferrari Spider is amongst the most fast, agile & responsive drop tops to be ever produced by Ferrari.
Price & Availability
The world premier of the 488 Spider Ferrari will be at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 2015. Prices start at US$ 275,000.
