Auction of Rare Diamonds at Sotheby’s

2 Rare gems – a  ‘Premier Blue Diamond’ and a colourless ‘Magnificent Oval Diamond’, together,  are likely to command over US$47 Million, at an auction, on October 7. The two superior & precious diamonds will be sold under the hammer, at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, along with several other precious Jewels and Jadeites.

The Premier Blue Diamond

The Premier Blue Diamond at 7.59 Carat, is the world’s largest fancy vivid Blue Diamond, to be auctioned. It is a rare, for its even and saturated pure blue hue and a round cut – an unusual shape for coloured diamonds. Coloured Diamonds are more precious than white diamonds.

The Premier Blue Diamond, Rare Diamonds is expected to be sold for over US$19 Million.

This diamond is rare for more reasons. It is a type IIb gem and is thus capable of being a semi conductor and can conduct electricity. Initially, mines in India were known for producing Blue Diamonds, but now South African mines are the primary source of blue coloured diamonds.

 

The Magnificent Oval Diamond

The other star of the auction, at Sotheby’s is ‘The Magnificent Oval Diamond’. Sold for nearly US$30 Million (US$30779934) .This colourless diamond of 118.28 carat, is the largest D colour, type IIa diamond of precise symmetry, to be sold at an auction.

This flawless beauty went through months of cleaning and polishing to acquire the brilliant cut that it flaunts today. It weighed 299ct as a rough rock, when found in Southern Africa, a couple of years back. The Magnificent Oval Diamond could command an exceptional price ranging US$28/35 million.

 

Cartier Peacock Brooch

The most extravagant auction of precious Jewels and Jadeites will also witnessed the sale of ‘Cartier Peacock Brooch’. It sold for a whopping US$ 871,837. This piece of jewellery belongs to a royal private collection. Perched on a massive 48.57 carats heavy Ruby, the exquisitely crafted Peacock, ornate smaller rubies and diamonds weighing 28.00 carats in its wide feather-net. Peacock Broach is built in Platinum case and could fetch about US$412,672 – 515,840.

 

A Diamond Necklace

A Diamond Necklace with over 66 carats of diamonds could fetch US$ 283,712 – 335,296. It is made of pear and marquise shaped diamonds.

 

The Cindy Chao Ruby and Diamond Ring

Sold for Hammer price US$3,843,008. An Oval ruby surrounded by a creative architecture made of white gold. The Oval ruby is 8.03 carats. A ribbon shape around the big ruby is highlighted with two cushion-shaped diamonds weighing 1.62 and 1.04 carats respectively. Cindy Chao Ruby & Diamond ring was expected to command a hefty US$3,610,880 – 4,255,680.

 

Very Fine Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond Ring

Sold for US$748,026. A gorgeous vivid yellow colour diamond cut in an emerald shape. The diamond is hosted in a slim ring made of 18 K gold and encrusted with tiny diamonds.

All in all, the Magnificent Jewel and Jadeite Auction could earn as much as US$80 million.
